THIS WEEK IN DOCTOR WHO
October 26, 2005 - Vol 8, No 43
The weekly guide to Doctor Who broadcasts worldwide.

Wednesday 26 October:
NRK 2 Norway - 8:05PM - Krig I Vente pt 2
Saturday 5 November:
France 4 - 10:25PM - Rose / La Fin Du Monde (series premiere)
Friday 11 November:
Jimmy (Italy) - 9PM - Rose (series premiere)
Children In Need http://www.bbc.co.uk/pudsey will feature some type of Doctor Who segment in their annual telethon on 18 November. Russell T Davies will write the segment, and the contents are being kept secret. Children In Need will air throughout the evening of the 18th on BBC One http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcone . It is unknown if the Doctor Who segment will be on the BBC Prime http://www.bbcprime.com version of Children In Need, which is apparently running for 80 minutes from 11:40PM to 1AM Central European Time / 12:40AM to 2AM Central African Time on the same night. To my knowledge, Children In Need will not air on BBC America, BBC Canada, or BBC Japan.
Doctor Who has past history with Children In Need. "The Five
Doctors" had its UK premiere during fundraising efforts for Children
In Need in 1983. The 1993 special "Dimensions In Time" was specially
made for Children In Need under conditions that it never be rerun or
offered on video anywhere.
Germany - ProSieben (Pro 7) http://www.prosieben.de has purchased Series One and Series Two of Doctor Who, bringing the show to the largest European market. Doctor Who will begin in 2006, dubbed into German. A German language report on this sale http://www.quotenmeter.de/index.php?newsid=11651 notes that Doctor Who has already been sold to 16 other countries (if true, then there are some sales we don't know about yet). The BBC's official press release is at http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/commercial/worldwidestories/pressreleases/2005/10_october/doctor_who_germany.shtml
UK - Not a big surprise, but UKTV Gold is airing the current series of Doctor Who in 14:9 Cropped Letterbox, the way they aired on BBC One's analogue transmissions. Most of UKTV Gold's programming was made in 4:3, so they are trying to make the programming look good for 4:3 TVs. The new series is not affecting the schedule of repeats for the classic series, which continue in early mornings finishing around 9AM on Saturdays and Sundays. With some exceptions, the schedule for the Eccleston episodes after this week's marathon will be:

Friday 8PM (9PM on UKTV Gold +1)
Saturday 6PM (7PM on UKTV Gold +1)
Sunday 9PM (10PM on UKTV Gold +1)
Late Sunday 4AM approximate (5AM on UKTV Gold +1)
Wednesday 11PM (12AM on UKTV Gold +1)
USA - The Starz http://www.starz.com /Encore http://www.encoretv.com
Movie suite begins another round of broadcasts of the 1996 Doctor
Who TV Movie. Starz Edge airs "Doctor Who" at 3:15PM Eastern/Pacific
today, with additional airings Monday (see the detailed listings
below). Starz Mystery will air the movie a number of times in
November.
Most of the US, Canada, and Europe changes from Daylight Savings
Time to Standard Time late Saturday/early Sunday at 2AM. Listeners
of Sci-Fi Overdrive and the BBC7 Doctor Who broadcasts will need to
bear this in mind next week if they are not in one of the areas that
changes time.
The BBC Press Office http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice and C21 Media
http://www.c21media.net often announce when a Doctor Who
international sale occurs. Worth keeping an eye on, just in case.
Corrections and updates are welcome at thisweekindoctorwho-
